Panel 2: Regional and Transregional Practices in Sustainable and Just Transitions

Focus

This panel discusses socio-economic and socio-ecological aspects of just transitions from a regional and transregional perspective. With examples from the United States, Germany, and Azerbaijan, the panellists will discuss strategies toward green energy transitions, recultivation of post-mining landscapes and implementation of SDGs. As their data shows, these processes are neither straightforward nor uncontested. We conclude the panel by discussing transregional aspects of and pathways to sustainable and just transitions.

Evolving legal landscape and propose forward-thinking legal frameworks to support the financial framework for sustainable political and socio-economical systems for the time of post-fossil transition. The panel explore the legal challenges surrounding climate finance, including the current discussions on the Common But Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities as well as the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance. The CBDR-RC and NCQG will be set in the context of legal regulation of new technologies contributing to climate protection.
